What are the best international movies, specifically on modern history?
I am a fan of all things international: culture, society, history and so on. I love learning about new things from movies also. I was wondering what people’s top choices are for best internationally themed movies on modern history and society.
NOTE: While "Amelie" is a great movie, I would NOT AT ALL include it on this list. I am thinking more along the lines of "Blood Diamond, "Hotel Rwanda," "Last King of Scotland," or "Ghandi."

Friend mad at me for no reason?
OK, so in gym, we recently had a volleyball test (I know, it’s stupid). I’m in a different class than my friend Ellen, who got her test back about a week ago. She failed, and I still haven’t gotten my test back. But I didn’t know she failed this until this morning. This morning, I got a text from Ellen that asked how much the test counted for our final marking period grade. I told her what I remembered, that it counted for at least 10% & it could bring your grade down one or two letter grades if you failed. I asked her if she failed, & she said yes. I texted her, "Omygod im so sorry!!!!!!!
hopefully ur parents wont get mad @ u. I mean for gods sakes, its a frickin gym test!!!
they didnt give us our tests back yet. Maybe its a conspiricy!!! Maybe they changed ur beautiful a to a 63%!!!!" I was trying to comfort her and cheer her up, and didn’t think I was being mean, but later her texted me back saying, "Ur not being supportive. ur being negative." I texted back, "Im sorry i was trying to cheer u up" She texted back, "Well ur not." Even though Ellen hurt my feelings, I still tried to make her feel better by trying to get her mind off of the test. So I started talking about the snow we had gotten the night before. She talked about the snow a little bit, but then, out of the blue, she texted, "Omigosh did you get cake for science?" (We have the same science teacher, but different classes. Our science teacher made a deal with all of his classes: if we all got above an 84 and had a 94 average on our quarterly’s, then he’d buy us a cake. My class was the only class to accomplish this.) I just told her I was sorry, but we did. She never texted me back. I decided to give her a few Rig Pops and a note because she seemed really upset about the bad grade. During school, another friend came up to me and asked me what I had told Ellen to make her so upset. Apparently, she had been crying in front of all our friends and had told them I had told her that she was gonna fail gym. I saw Ellen in school after that, but she avoided me like hell. During lunch, I eventually gave her the Ring Pops. She started to tell me what she was mad about, but stopped. She later declared that we were friends again. I just am astonished at what happened, though. Later, I was extremely nice to her and asked her what I did wrong, but she said she had to go. Even though she’s over our one-sided fight, I just don’t get what happened. I was trying to cheer her up, and she just made me sad and depressed the whole day instead. Was I mean to her? Should I keep asking her why she was mad at me? How should I treat her when I see her tomorrow? Thanks in advance!
She seems jealous of your good grades, I have a friend like this. She confuses the hell out of me. I think they’re bi-polar or crazy or something. They should meet.

Im going near a gamestop this friday i was gonna ask how much they would give me but i dont really know whats a reasonable price for them. And do i have to delete the saved stuff on the game before i bring it?
i want to know how much they are worth before i bring them to gamestop to see if im getting a good deal
well how much store credit do you think they will give me??
Call Gamestop and ask them. They will give you the most current prices.
jon.nichols | Aug 19, 2009
I took my kids to trade in some games at gamestop and they would only give us store credit and it wasn’t very much at all. You don’t have to delete anything though. I would try to sell them to a pawn shop, ebay, Lsn.com, or craigslist.

Help with imperfect (spanish?)?
So I have to make a story in the PAST tense for my Spanish homework. I wrote this and I’m JUST wondering if I used the imperfect and preterite appropriately since I’m so god-awful at it. Thanks
Translation:
Once upon a time, a brave boy walked to the woods. The boy never traveled in the nihgt, but it wasn’t important. Once there, the night was late and the boy didn’t want to get lost too early. He took refuge in his tent. He didn’t have a compass or a map because a watch would suffice. He regularly looked at the watch until it was midnight.
At midnight, the boy left his refuge and walked again. It was clear the boy didn’t want to camp. He had other plans. He approached a dark house. Suddenly, the boy threw a rock at the window of the dark house. In little time, a girl opened the window and used the blankets to be with the brave boy.
The children ran to the woods and stopped running. The girl gave a flashlight to the boy and they walked into the dark landscape. The parents of the children realized the departure of the children, and were frightened.
The parents of the children used binoculars searched for the children, but a dog was the searcher to have success. The children went to their houses, and their midnight flights ended.
Your Spanish isn’t as bad as you think: Only a few errors that I could spot regarding gender and number in adjectives, articles, and conjugation of verbs. This is how I corrected it, so feel free to compare your version to this one:

ROCKY BALBOA?????????!!!!!?
I’ve seen all the Rocky movies except the newest one. He was brain damaged in part 5 and showed signs of it and I was wondering how does he return in the ring in this one. Does he show signs of being brain damage in part 6 as well and still manage to fight?
LOL Thats obvious even though he acted like it in part 5.
They play it off by simply saying " The doctors were wrong"

Books & Authors, A Serious Question? Any Advice?
One of my relatives is an extremely well known sports celebrity. At least two men have helped him write books about himself and another man interviewed some of my relatives to write a book on the family member I just mentioned. Should I try to contact either of these men to ask for a possible reference with a literary agent? I have a sports novel (historical fiction) regarding the Negro League that this family member was a part of that has never been written about. About 5 other members of my family were on this team (not just the famous family member).
I can’t ask the famous family member for their help (I have my reasons, even though the book shows them in a positive light). Would it seem desperate, though, to ask these strangers for a reference to an agent? Should I go for it or just leave that alone? I need serious advice, please.
btw, please forgive me but I can’t offer best answer for this - the question needs to be taken down in a little while so it’s not traced back to me should I get this book published.
Thanks in advance!
To be honest, it does come across as desperate. Very desperate, in fact. If you’re a good writer, with an interesting book to offer, than you should be able to find your own literary agent. I know that’s not always an easy process, but contacting these strangers doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. I know if it were me, it would almost feel like I was using my relative’s success to further my ambitions. I’d feel a lot prouder and happier if I found a literary agent by myself.
Also, are these men still in touch with your famous relative? Because if they are it would get back to him anyway.

Have you ever wondered what killing someone is like?
Now I’m not planning on killing anyone or anything. But I have wondered, "What is it like to kill someone?" I can’t help but wonder how many people would murder all over if there was no law against it. Sometimes I just wonder about if people fly out to third world countries just to kill. I saw the movie ‘Bordertown’ and I was like, "I knew I wasn’t the only one who would think that to be a possibilty.
Don’t come in here saying ‘OH YOUR HORRIBLE GET HELP’ I’m not killing anyone. I haven’t killed anyone. I’m asking if anyone has ever wondered what killing someone is like.
I don’t spend my days thinking about killing people. But I’m not talking about killing someone I know, I’m talking about just killing someone to feel what it’s like. Not because mom made me clean my room.
Well… Considering that people and animals have been killing each other since the dawn of life on this planet, I honestly believe that the whole aversion to death and killing is rather nonsensical…
Death happens…
People die ALL THE TIME…
People always have and always will kill each other and sometimes people need to be killed…
Freaking out about it hasn’t stopped people from dieing or being killed so what is all the ruckus about?
I’ve watched many people die in my life… I watched my mother’s blood pour out from her self inflected gun shot wound to the head… I watched as the the life drained out of a woman trapped behind the wheel of her car after a massive car accident in front of my apartment… I watched as my grandfather took his last breath in a Hospice in Tucson…
I’ve seen every type of death from natural, to accidental, to purposeful and it has only reinforced the fact that DEATH and SEX are the only 2 natural things that humans still do…
No one LIKES to kill but when it happens, it is just another shock for you to get over…
The loss of a conscious being is never positive but it isn’t the end of the world…
I think that only the small minded are trapped in their guilt…
Those that truly see that no one life is important to anyone but themselves and that they will be forgotten a few minuets after they are gone and disposed of truly understand that humans are just animals in pants… No better or worse then any other animal to have existed on earth…
We have just put to much self importance on ourselves and our true importance in the great scheme of things…

Yes. Not to the full extent of "hmm should i disembowel them" but more like.. "I wonder what life would be like without them".
I believe that most people have thoughts like that.
I actually read that at least 85% of kids nowadays imagine killing themselves or others.

Haha yeah, I sometimes think how I would do it, and how I would get away with it. I never would, but it’s interesting to think about.
piximous | Jul 15, 2008
Yes - it’s not that wierd or unusual. I’ve wandered about being forced to kill for self defense, killing in the army, in war, and killing for the fun of it. I’m very clear I never *want* to do any of these things, but I think it’s a bit odd if you never wander about it. Particularly if you read a book or see a movie with a murderer in… There’s not limit to curiosity, usually.
J. | Jul 15, 2008
That’s very…unusual of you to fantasize about killing…
Kenzie S | Jul 15, 2008
I’ve wondered it before. I think that the main reason most people who wonder this think about it is because they want to know the kind of mindset it takes to actually kill a person. Also they want to know how it feels in the end, is there a high after the kill…etc.
I wouldn’t kill anyone though. I know two people who have accidently killed someone (went to prison and everything) and they regret it very much.
Somebody | Jul 15, 2008
Yes, I do. But I don’t think about how or when, because I never EVER plan to kill anyone. I would feel horrible.
fundancer_410 | Jul 15, 2008
Yes but only becuase my man has in the line of duty. I always wondered what I would have done in the same situation and I am sure I would have done the same thing but how could I ever handle having taken someone’s life away.
He says it changes you and you are never the same afterwards, that yu view life and death in an entirely new way. Now when we are in a situation that could potentially be bad he is much more aware that poeple will go to that extreme every quickly and it causes him to react to things that I would have never given a second glance.
I think that is a different type of killing then what you are mentioning but I do from time to time (esp when I haven’t heard from in a few days) think what he may or may not be doing and I usually wonder about killing and all the other unfun things that surround a soldiers life.
You are not a horrible person by any means. I would suggust you get some type of professional help if you start to fantisize about a stranger you see in a coffee shop and then start to foloow random people, but as long as you are not taking any steps towards the realization of these fanticies you should be fine.
