Should the US Military help the men and women who served our country in Vietnam find work?
Do they already? I admit I only recently moved to the united states but when I meet four homeless people who served in Vietnam I get a little perturbed by how my new home treats them.

Before you ask - I verified they were ex military at least. (NO military man or woman forgets their number) .

Most of them are retired already. Vietnam ended almost 40 years ago. You should look skeptically on anyone under the age of 60 who tells you he’s a Vietnam vet. Under the age of 57 is impossible.

We ask of so much of our men and women in the military; and yet provide so little for their services. Its alarming to know the amount of homeless veterans and those who are unable to received timely medical service. Regardless if one respects or supports the campaign of the troops; its their loyalty to the call of duty, that paramount all else.

Most vietnam vets are disabled or retired like my uncle is

But them vets have to go look for work if they actually wanted it.

It’s not the Military’s fault they are homeless and have no job. It’s their own.

There are a BUNCH of resources for not only Vietnam vets but for veterans in general one website just for Vietnam vets is www.vva.org. It involves a lot of paperwork and time and effort to hunt for what each individual needs.

They have programs through the Veterans Admin. The Federal Government also has a hiring preference for veterans.

There are a lot of fake veterans out there, especially homeless. They talk to real homeless veterans so they can get good details.

I once had a fake vet trying to hit me up for money claiming he was a former artillery observer and that he was a 13F in the Army in Vietnam. His story was pretty good and simular to stories of friends of mine who were in Vietnam. The flaw was that the "13F" MOS didnt come about until the 1980s.

The flip side you also don’t hear about is that while veterans have a higher percentage of homeless then the civilian population, there is also a higher percentage of home owners who are veterans then in the civilian population. The thing that happens is that the person is either good at applying military lessons to the civilian world, or not, so the grey area in the middle is smaller then in the civilian population.

Military ids are now ss numbers.

Most of those vets are too old to work.

Rate my taste in movies.?
My favorite movies are
Sling Blade
The Shining
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
The Vanishing
Shaun of the Dead
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Menace II Society
Dazed and Confused
Eraserhead
Dawn of the Dead
An Inconvenient Truth
Hotel Rwanda
Super Size Me
American History X
I like old movies just fine.
The Birds
Arsenic and Old Lace
The Hustler
Cape Fear
Cool Hand Luke
Cape Fear came out in 62′

Regardless of what I think of your favorite movies (I like most of them), it’s nice to see a list as diverse as yours. It shows you put some thought into it, instead of listing an exclusive bunch of vampire, war, romance movies, etc.

I love Sling Blade and Shaun of the Dead and all your older movies, especially the Hitchcock and early Paul Newman ones you mentioned. And Robert Mitchum as Max Cady in Cape Fear is my favorite villian of all time. (I’m assuming that you were talking about the original. The remake was okay, but there’s no comparison.)

That’s a great taste in movies, you like deep and dark films but you also have a side for comedys.

They aren’t my favorite movies but it’s your taste not mine as far as I’m concerned everyone has good taste for themselves. No one likes the same stuff so… I give you a ten.

Try watching a few older movies maybe? You seem like you might have the attention span for them. I mean they’ve been making movies for about 90 years now and there are 90 years worth of great movies. None of those are pre-1970.

Not bad. My favorite out of those is The Shining.

Edit: I love Cape Fear. I think it came out in ‘91 though so it isn’t *that* old.

Edit 2: Ohhh you’re talking about the original. My bad.

Economics of Public Issues?
During Prohibition, some speakeasy operators paid bribes to ensure that the police didn’t raid them. Would you expect the quality of the liquor served in such speakeasies to be higher or lower than in those that did not pay bribes? Would you expect to find differences (for example, with regard to income levels) among the customers patronizing the two types of speakeasies?
