i know that everyone has taken photos of eyes im sorry for the repetivness, but i’ve never taken a photo like this before. This week my independent study was macro photography and seeing as there are no flowers at our school or anything else mutually interesting i decided eyes would be my best bet.
i love the color, just its kind of a weird angle, i guess. i would like it better if there was more of the face, or the eye straight on maybe?

I love the way you’ve captured this, it has great exposure, but my only problem is that if you had of come out slightly you could of captured more emotion in it. Other than that, I’d say well done.

A little more?… constructive?
I’m not a real fan of these… they are pretty much like spider webs, although occasionally an interesting one comes along, there’s not really much difference from one to the other.
The image, to me at least, is a bit contrasty on the skin around the eye itself because of reflected light and that draws my attention away from the interesting part of the image, the iris color and patterns.
Since you did shoot macro, I would think the natural progression for this shot would be to concentrate on the iris and remove the other distractions… the skin, eyelids, lashes,…
Then, I think maybe create a universe around that iris.
I can’t be constructive on this image,… there is really no wow factor for me.

Fire ball Over Las Vegas, was it a comet?
Tonight 11/18/09 I saw a ball of fire! it was a little past 11pm, I was driving North on Haulapi towards Charleston on the west side of Las vegas, as I was driving I saw a ball of fire shoot down from the sky, then it went behind a wall near a sub-divison, within seconds a bright bright wall of light came over the whole area, more like a "blast" of light. I did not hear an explosion though. Maybe it was much farther and it just looked close, all I know that it was freaky??
my wife and a co-worker was waiting outside of their work for me, just across the street from red-rock casino, her co-worker told me she saw a crazy lightning strike in the distance and that a few mintues before it happend, the lights in the area flickered. Did anyone else see this??? I’m from Chicago, is this common here in the desert states?
You saw one of the Leonids, a major meteor shower that is in the skies tonight. This happens every year around this time. The Earth passes through a band of small rocks left behind by a comet, and what you see is them burning up in the upper atmosphere.
A comet would not move fast enough so that you could see it moving. Unlike the meteors, a comet would normally be several million miles away.

What you saw was a fireball or bolide, a very bright meteor. We’ve just had a major meteor shower, the Leonids, and it may have been one of those. These were visible all over the world, even in Chicago.
It was not a comet, as these are slow moving, and none is currently visible to the naked eye.

Comets are no fireballs, but rather blurry and faint objects, made of dust and gas.

While comets are among the fastest objects in the solar system, when you can see them, they have to be far away, and thus move very slow through the sky. Despite movies like Armagaddon, you wouldn’t see much of the coma of a comet from close, even when you are close to it. This real image is taken from 600 km away:

The official definition of a fireball is a "meteor brighter than any of the planets", what you saw was likely a bolide, a very bright meteor (magnitude -14 or more).

The flickering of the light sounds more like a common coincidence - you don’t remember the usual flickering of the lights when nothing special happens, despite this happening every day.

Books & Authors, A Serious Question? Any Advice?
One of my relatives is an extremely well known sports celebrity. At least two men have helped him write books about himself and another man interviewed some of my relatives to write a book on the family member I just mentioned. Should I try to contact either of these men to ask for a possible reference with a literary agent? I have a sports novel (historical fiction) regarding the Negro League that this family member was a part of that has never been written about. About 5 other members of my family were on this team (not just the famous family member).
I can’t ask the famous family member for their help (I have my reasons, even though the book shows them in a positive light). Would it seem desperate, though, to ask these strangers for a reference to an agent? Should I go for it or just leave that alone? I need serious advice, please.
btw, please forgive me but I can’t offer best answer for this - the question needs to be taken down in a little while so it’s not traced back to me should I get this book published.

To be honest, it does come across as desperate. Very desperate, in fact. If you’re a good writer, with an interesting book to offer, than you should be able to find your own literary agent. I know that’s not always an easy process, but contacting these strangers doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. I know if it were me, it would almost feel like I was using my relative’s success to further my ambitions. I’d feel a lot prouder and happier if I found a literary agent by myself.
Also, are these men still in touch with your famous relative? Because if they are it would get back to him anyway.
